Enter Moves
The Enter Moves screen is where the moves of the game are recorded. Moves are entered directly on the chessboard, without writing notation by hand.
Entering a move
Moves can be entered in either of the following ways:
- Drag a piece to its destination square
- Tap a piece, then tap the destination square
Both methods are always available. Each move is recorded as it is entered.
Automatic saving
Moves are saved automatically. There is no Save button and no risk of losing moves due to forgetting to save.
Correcting a move
If a move is entered incorrectly, use the back button to return to the last correct position, then enter the correct move.
When correcting a move, you will be asked to confirm that the remaining moves will be deleted.
Navigating the game
While entering or viewing moves, you can navigate through the game using:
- Forward and back buttons (one move at a time)
- The position slider to jump to any point in the game
Board interaction
The board can be rotated using a two-finger rotate gesture.
Board coordinates can be toggled using a two finger double tap on the board.
Screen behavior
Screen brightness can be adjusted using a one finger vertical swipe outside of the chessboard area.
This allows brightness to be adjusted quickly during play without leaving the Enter Moves screen.
Notes
Move validation may be enabled or disabled. When disabled, illegal moves may be recorded.
When enabled, the board will briefly flash when an illegal move is detected and the piece will be returned to its original square. Move validation is intended only for casual play. USCF rules do not allow Electronic Notation Devices (END) to check for illegal moves.
Please note that recording of illegal moves is a requirement of Electronic Notation Devices (END). However, the PGN specification does not allow illegal moves, and there is no standard for how importing applications handle this situation.
Always follow tournament rules and the instructions of the tournament director when using an electronic scoresheet.
